Disc golf rules are simple and easy to learn, resembling traditional golf with discs instead of balls and clubs. The objective is to complete each hole in the fewest strokes possible, with one stroke counted for each throw and penalty incurred. The player with the lowest total strokes for the entire round wins. The hole is considered completed when the disc comes to rest in the disc golf basket.
Safety First Prioritize safety at all times. Never throw when other players or park users are within range. Always yield the right of way to park users and be mindful of your surroundings and environment.
Tee Throws Each hole begins with a tee throw, which must be made within or behind the designated tee area.
Lie The lie is the spot where the player's previous throw has landed. Mark each lie with a mini marker disc or leave the thrown disc on the ground. Subsequent throws are made from directly behind the marked lie.
Throwing Order The player with the least strokes on the previous hole tees off first on the next hole. After all players have teed off, the player farthest from the hole throws first.
Fairway Throws Fairway throws must be made from directly behind the lie. A run-up and normal follow-through are allowed unless the lie is within 10 meters of the target. Within 10 meters, players must maintain balance and not move past the lie until the disc comes to rest.
Mandatory A mandatory (mando) consists of designated trees or poles in the fairway that must be passed on the correct side as indicated by an arrow. Failure to pass on the correct side incurs a penalty. Players either play from the previous lie or a marked drop zone area, if applicable.
Completion of Hole A hole is completed when the disc comes to rest in the disc golf basket or suspended in the chains.
Out of Bounds If any part of the disc is visible between the disc and the out-of-bounds (O.B.) line, it is considered out of bounds. Out-of-bounds throws must be played from a point up to 1 meter in bounds from where the disc crossed the O.B. line. Permanent water hazards, public roads, and park boundaries are typically out of bounds.
